Kingdom Hearts composer, Yoko Shimomura, had this to say regarding the new compilation soundtrack:
There was a lot of demand for a soundtrack in the recent handheld game platforms that have been put out into the market.
Especially, many fans enjoyed the theme music such as Xion’s theme from the Nintendo DS title ‘Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days’. Music from ‘Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep’ were very popular.
An original soundtrack was gathered bringing the music from three titles together on sale was decided, though I was not aware.
I’m very glad with the progress and as a composer of the ‘Kingdom Hearts’ series I want to thank the fans.
